Child Proof Your Pool & Save a LIFE!!

If you have a small child, protecting them from accidentally falling in your pool should be top priority. Many parents who have lost their child from accidental drowning have regretted not having a safety feature in place to protect their child. Think it can’t happen to you. So did they.

Lets look at a few facts that you may not be aware of:

1. Drowning is the 2nd leading cause of injury death in the United States in children under the age of 15.

2. In 18 of the 50 states, drowning was the #1 cause of existential injury death of children 1-4 years of age.

3. 67% of all drownings occur in backyard pools and spas.

4. The majority of drowning incidents have occurred while the children’s supervisor assumed the child was safely in doors.

5. A child can drown in less time than it takes to answer the phone.

6. A child can drown in as little as 4-6 inches of water in as little as 30 seconds.

7. Children less than 5 years of age and young people age 15-24 have the highest drowning rates.

8. For every child who drowns, 4 children are hospitalized for near drowning accidents.

9. 1/3 of those near drowning accidents survive, but suffer significant neurological impairment. Irreversible brain damage may occur in as little as 3-5 minutes. (Katchakid)

The Answer to Child Proofing your pool:

Katchakid pool safety net (pictured above)

Features of the Katchakid pool safety net:

No exposed area of Water:
The net cannot be removed by most children under 12 years of age. If properly positioned, anchored and tensioned the net should not have any perimeter gaps for a child to crawl underneath.

Total Visibility:
You can still see your pool top to bottom.

Will Not Shrink or Stretch:
The Katchakid pool netting is treated with laboratory developed maximum UV inhibitors so the netting will not shrink or deteriorate even when subjected to harsh climate conditions.

Convenient:
You do not need to remove your pool protection to chlorinate or chemically treat your pool. 24 hours / 7 days per week child pool safety.

Easy On & Off:
The tension of the net is controlled by the central tension system; a series of pullies which allow the Katchakid to be removed and replaced with relative ease. An easy off portable storage roller constructed from high quality furniture PVC tubing assists with easy wind up removal. Generally takes 3-5 minutes to remove and 5-8 minutes to replace the net on an average size and shaped swimming pool.

Aesthetically Pleasing:
The Katchakid can be installed on most pools, ponds, spas, and water features and is available in Pool Ocean Blue or Coal Jet Black. The net is secured around the pool’s perimeter with your choice of feet friendly, flush mounted, color coordinated hard-wearing nylon or premium high-grade brass anchors.

Superior Quality and Outstanding Performance:
Katchakid Inc. offers the very best in terms of child proof pool safety and in our 30 years of experience we have never had a reported drowning or near drowning incident with a correctively installed Katchakid.

Make the change -Convert to a Salt Water System

We all know the benefits of sitting in an Epson salt bath when we have a sprained ankle, achy muscles, or any other skin or muscle alignment. I used to run track and my ankles and leg muscles would ache when I got home. My miss "fix it" mom would run me a nice soothing bath of Epson salt and I still remember how well I felt when I got out. It was what her mother did and her mothers mother did. An all natural remedy that has worked for generations. Now, lets imagine if when I got home, my mom had me a nice bath drawn of chlorine, algaecide, and shock. That would have been an itchy uncomfterable bath and I would not have got out feeling any better than when I got in. I would have actually felt worse. I would have added more problems to my achy muscles such as itchy skin, red eyes, green hair if I did it every night, and lets not forget really dry skin. Your swimming pool is a large investment that you get for enjoyment, exercise, and entertaining. However, there are some nasty side effects that come with that enjoyment. It does not have to be that way. Convert to a salt system and you can add the Greek bath luxury experience to your pool and not only have enjoyment but have a good sense of well-being. Feel good when you get out instead of feeling like you need to take a shower to get the itchy feeling off. To me, there is no question of what I would want in my skin. Lets talk more about what a salt system is, the price, the upkeep, and more benefits of having one.

What is a salt water system & how does it work?

You can install it yourself or have it installed for you. Basically, you have to add a chlorine generator to your plumbing system. It converts the salt you add to your pool to chlorine through electrolysis. Below is a perfect explanation from Saline Pool Systems on how the system works.

"When the water (and dissolved salt) is passed through the ‘cell’ portion of the Saline System equipment, chlorine gas is automatically produced (from the dissolved salt). This chlorine gas dissolves instantaneously into the water (so is never a hazard), and produces high levels of sanitizer/oxidizer which firstly prevent the formation of ‘chloramines’ and other ‘chlorine compounds’ and secondly provides a safe and measurable residual of sanitizer in the main water body." Excerpted from http://www.salinepoolsystems.com/

What is the price of a salt water system?

While the start up price of purchasing the system is not cheap, the maintenance is. The price of chlorine has increased at least 40% in the past year, not to mention the other chemicals such as shock and algaecide that is needed. The average residential pool consumes $35.-$50 / month of chemicals. The price could be more or less based on pool size, usage, time of year, etc. If the correct salt water system size is purchased for your pool, it will cost an average of $50.00 / year to maintain your salt system. You heard that right / "per year". That is a substantial savings. It is important to purchase the right system because this directly influences the price you spend to upkeep your new salt water pool. The system prices START at about $1500.00 with installation. How do I take care of my new salt water system?

Taking care of your new salt water system is easy.

  • The new system has indicator lights that tell you when you need to add salt to the pool.
  • Add acid to correct PH levels when needed.
  • Clean the electrodes on the new converter every 3-4 months.
Lets review the Benefits.

  • Skin will feel softer and invigorated instead of irritated and dry.
  • A salt system is eco-friendly and good for the environment versus chemical treated pools.
  • Uses pure natural salt from the sea; just like your table salt but without the ocean taste.
  • No longer have to store dangerous chemicals around children or dogs. Just salt.
  • Lets not forget the all-natural therapeutic nature of salt. Nothing like healing achy muscles and joints in your pool.

So, if you are wondering on how to get a better more enjoyable swimming experience out of your pool, think about converting. Other parts of the world have been using this system for years. Let your investment for enjoyment do something for your health and get rid of the hazardous chemicals used in a traditional pool.
